Almost nothing: a field of snow in textured paint, seventy centimetres of whites worked into drifts. Then two black-tipped ears, two eyes, a muzzle: the hare is there, needle embroidered, crouched, nearly dissolved into the canvas. Below, one tuft of russet grass, the only warm note, the only landmark.
